Configure Backorder Available Dates

Configure WooCommerce backorder available dates so customers understand when delayed products are expected to arrive.

Applies to 2.0.1+ Stable Verified July 29, 2026

Backorder is a WooCommerce stock status for products that are temporarily unavailable but can still be ordered. WooCommerce Stock Manager can add available dates and clearer customer messaging to backorders.

Enable Available Date for Backorders

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Products → Stock status.
  2. In On backorder, enable Available date.
  3. Save changes.

Configure a Backorder Product

  1. Edit a product.
  2. Set WooCommerce backorders to allowed or notify, depending on your store policy.
  3. Set an available date if the option is enabled.
  4. Set a cart limit or expected restock quantity if needed.
  5. Save the product.

Customer View

If available dates are enabled, customers can see a message that the item is available on backorder and expected on the selected date.

When to Use Backorder Instead of Preorder

Use backorder for items your store normally sells but temporarily does not have in stock. Use preorder for items not yet launched or not yet available.
