Configure Customer Cancellation Requests

Configure customer cancellation requests in WooCommerce, including request rules, allowed statuses, timing, and admin review.

Applies to 1.4.1+ Stable Verified July 29, 2026

Customer cancellation requests let shoppers ask to cancel an order without contacting support manually.

Open Cancellation Settings

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Orders.
  2. Open Cancellation.
  3. Find the Customer actions section.

Enable Cancellation

  1. Enable Allows customers to cancel their orders.
  2. Select the order statuses where cancellation is allowed.
  3. Add preset cancellation reasons, one reason per line.
  4. Set a time limit if customers should only be able to cancel shortly after purchase.
  5. Add a cancellation notice if you want to explain your policy in the popup.
  6. Optionally enable the cancel button in the new order email.
  7. Save changes.

How the Button Appears

The Cancel order button appears on the customer order details page when cancellation is enabled, the order status is allowed, the time limit has not expired, and the customer has not already submitted a cancellation or return request.

Use clear cancellation reasons such as “Ordered by mistake”, “Need to change shipping address”, “Found another product”, or “Other reason”. Keep the notice short and link to your cancellation policy if needed.

After configuring request rules, review the admin workflow in Review, Approve, or Reject Cancellation Requests and manager-only cancellation in Cancel Orders as a Manager With a Reason.
