Return requests let customers submit a structured return request from their order page.

Open Return Settings

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Orders.
  2. Open Returns.
  3. Find the Customer actions section.

Enable Returns

  1. Enable Allows customers to return their orders.
  2. Select the order status that allows returns, usually Completed.
  3. Add return reasons, one reason per line.
  4. Set a time limit if returns are allowed only within a period after the order reaches the allowed status.
  5. Add a return notice to explain your return policy.
  6. Enable resolution choices if customers should choose Refund, Exchange, Store credit, or your own options.
  7. Enable Virtual order if virtual-only orders should not be returnable.
  8. Optionally add the return button to the completed order email.
  9. Save changes.

How Return Timing Works

The return time limit is counted from when the order changes to the allowed return status. If no status-change date is available, the plugin falls back to the order creation date.

Most stores should allow returns from Completed orders only, keep manual approval enabled, and show a short notice explaining return conditions.

Return requests work best when you also configure Set Up Return Attachments, Items, and Resolutions and train staff with Review, Approve, or Reject Return Requests.
