Configure Email and Phone Verification
Configure email and phone verification for WooCommerce accounts, including verification rules, code behavior, and customer flow.
Verification helps confirm that a customer can access the email address or phone number they used during registration. This reduces fake accounts, wrong contact details, and support issues later.
Open Verification Settings
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Membership → Advanced.
- Scroll to Verifications.

Enable Email Verification
- Check Require email verification during account registration.
- Save changes.
- Create a test account using a real email inbox you can access.
- Confirm the activation email arrives.
- Click the activation link and finish the account setup.
Email verification is the easiest verification method to start with because it does not require SMS setup.
Enable Phone Verification
Before enabling phone verification, configure and test SMS delivery. If SMS is not working, new customers may be unable to complete registration.
- Set up an SMS service in WooCommerce → Settings → Integration → SMS Services.
- Return to Accounts & Membership → Advanced.
- Check Require phone verification during account registration.
- Save changes.
- Create a test account using a phone number that can receive SMS.
Allow Customers to Change Their Phone Number
Enable Allow customers to change their phone number if customers should update their phone from Account Details. The new phone number must be verified before it is trusted.
Set Code and Resend Rules
- Code length: choose 4 to 8 digits. Four digits is easier for customers; six digits is a common balance.
- Resend in seconds: keep at least 60 seconds to reduce repeated SMS cost and abuse.
- Time limited: controls how many resend attempts a customer can request.
- SMS content: must include
{code}. You can also use{site_name}.
Exclude Trusted Roles
Use Excluded roles when staff, managers, or other trusted roles should not be forced through customer verification. Administrators are excluded by default.
Recommended: test email verification and phone verification separately first. After both work, you can require both for registration if your store needs stronger identity checks.
If you send phone verification codes, configure Configure SMS Services and Yo Credits. To review customer status later, use Manage Users, Blocking, and Verification Status.
