Configure Login With OTP and Passwordless Login
Configure OTP login and passwordless login so customers can access WooCommerce accounts without relying only on passwords.
OTP login lets customers sign in or reset access using a one-time passcode sent to their phone or email. It can reduce password reset requests, but it depends on reliable message delivery.
Enable OTP Login
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Membership → Advanced.
- Find Verification / OTP.
- Check Allow user to login and reset password with One-Time Password.
- Save changes.
- Open the My Account page in a private browser and test OTP login.
The customer receives a passcode by phone or email, depending on the available account data and your verification setup.
Do Not Disable Passwords Too Early
The option Disabled password for login and register makes OTP the main way to access accounts. This can be convenient, but it should only be enabled after OTP has been tested thoroughly.
Use this order:
- Enable OTP login while keeping normal passwords active.
- Test login by email.
- Test login by phone number if phone accounts are enabled.
- Test password reset or account recovery.
- Ask one non-admin test user to complete the flow on mobile.
- Only then decide whether to disable passwords.
When Passwordless Login Makes Sense
- Your customers are mostly repeat buyers on mobile.
- Customers often forget passwords.
- Your SMS or email delivery is reliable.
- Your support team understands how to help customers who cannot receive a code.
When to Keep Passwords Enabled
- Your SMS provider is not configured yet.
- Customers are international and SMS delivery is inconsistent.
- Your store depends on email/password integrations from other plugins.
- You have not tested checkout registration after enabling OTP.

Common Support Advice
If a customer cannot log in with OTP, first confirm that their account has the correct email or phone number. Then check whether the SMS or email was delayed, blocked, or sent to the wrong destination.
For SMS-based OTP login, make sure Configure SMS Services and Yo Credits is configured first.
