Configure Point Deduction and Expiration

Configure point deduction and expiration rules so WooCommerce loyalty balances stay accurate after refunds, cancellations, or time limits.

Applies to 1.2.2+ Stable Verified July 29, 2026

Deduction and expiration rules help prevent customers from keeping rewards for orders that were cancelled, refunded, or too old.

Set Deduction Status

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Loyalty → General.
  2. Find Deduction status.
  3. Select statuses such as Cancelled, Refunded, or Failed.
  4. Save changes.

When an order moves to a selected deduction status, the plugin deducts the points that were previously awarded for that order.

Enable Point Expiration

  1. Enable Points expiration.
  2. Choose an expiration rule.
  3. Set the required value for that rule.
  4. Save changes.

Expiration Rule Types

  • Fixed lifetime: points expire a set time after they are earned.
  • Purchase inactivity: points expire if the customer does not purchase within a set period.
  • Fixed date: all points expire at the end of each year or quarter.

Do not enable expiration on day one unless your program terms already explain it clearly. Customers expect loyalty points to be stable unless expiration is communicated upfront.

Testing

Test deduction with a real test order: award points, then refund or cancel the order. Confirm the customer balance and points log show the deduction.
