Configure Preorder and Backorder Settings
Configure global preorder, backorder, delivery choice, auto-split, email, and payment behavior.
The main settings page controls store-wide behavior for preorder and backorder products.
Open Settings
Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Stock status.

Preorder Settings
- Button text: replaces Add to cart for preorder products.
- Availability notify: sends admin reminder emails before a product available date.
- Notification timer: controls how many days before availability the reminder is sent.
- Notification recipients: accepts comma-separated email addresses.
- Customer action: lets customers choose all-at-once or separate delivery for mixed carts.
- Automatically split the order: becomes useful when Advanced Order Actions is active and ready.
Backorder Settings
- Button text: replaces Add to cart for backorder products.
- Available date: enables ETA fields and customer-facing ETA display for backorder products.
Advanced Payment Restrictions
Use the Advanced section to hide selected payment methods when a cart contains preorder or backorder items. This is useful for gateways that should not be used for delayed fulfillment.
Recommended Approach
Set button text and dates first. Add customer delivery choices, special shipping methods, payment restrictions, and auto-splitting only after basic preorder and backorder checkout tests work.
