Configure ZeroBounce Email Validation

Configure ZeroBounce credits and API v2 validation, understand accepted statuses, and plan for privacy and false-positive recovery.

Applies to Premium 2.6.4+ Premium Stable Verified August 3, 2026

Blacklist Manager Premium uses ZeroBounce API v2 to validate billing email addresses during supported checkout and registration flows. This is an enforcement integration: the current plugin accepts only a ZeroBounce result with status valid.

Understand the policy before enabling it

Statuses such as invalid, catch-all, unknown, spamtrap, abuse, and do_not_mail are not accepted by the current integration. Catch-all and temporary/greylisted mail systems can therefore block a legitimate customer. Prepare a whitelist and customer-recovery workflow before production rollout.

Open the feature

Go to Blacklist Manager > Settings > Integrations > ZeroBounce API key.

Configure and test

  1. Create a ZeroBounce API key and confirm that the account has an active credit balance.
  2. Save the API key in Blacklist Manager.
  3. On staging, use the provider’s published sandbox email addresses to test valid, invalid, catch-all, and unknown behavior without using customer data.
  4. Confirm a valid test address can complete checkout and every non-valid test status receives the configured validation message.
  5. Test the store whitelist/recovery procedure for a legitimate address that is not returned as valid.

Availability and credits

  • The plugin checks the ZeroBounce credit balance before validating an email.
  • When no credits are available, the current integration skips the external validation rather than treating the customer as invalid.
  • Provider response time can vary, and temporary mail-server behavior can return unknown.
  • Monitor credit balance and validation outcomes; do not rely on an advertised free monthly allowance remaining unchanged.

Privacy and data region

The customer email address is sent to ZeroBounce. The current plugin uses ZeroBounce’s default API endpoint; the provider documents that this endpoint processes data on servers in the United States and separately offers regional endpoints. Review privacy requirements and the provider DPA before enabling this feature.

Troubleshooting

  • All validation is skipped: check the Premium license, saved key, and credit balance.
  • Valid customers are blocked: inspect the returned status, especially catch-all or unknown, and use the store whitelist while investigating.
  • Invalid key: replace or rotate the key and avoid repeated invalid requests, which the provider may rate-limit.
