Force regenerate all selected images prefers the original image path, rebuilds metadata, and removes obsolete generated files for the selected scope.
Open the feature
Go to Tools > Thumbnails > Regenerate.
Before you start
- Back up uploads and attachment metadata.
- Test one attachment with representative crops.
Recommended workflow
- Choose Force regenerate all selected images.
- Limit the job to specific attachment IDs or a small folder.
- Run and inspect per-item output.
- Compare image URLs, dimensions, crops, and metadata.
- Expand only after validation.
What success looks like
- Current enabled-size files and metadata agree.
- Original uploads remain unchanged.
Important notes
- Force regeneration can change crops and filenames; purge dependent caches after validation.
