Restrict Content and Products by Membership
Restrict WooCommerce content and products by membership so only eligible customers can access selected areas or offers.
Membership access rules let you show certain content or products only to customers with the correct membership role.
Restrict Content
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Membership → Membership.
- Click Edit for a membership role.
- Find the content access area.
- Select the content type, such as posts, pages, or taxonomy items.
- Search for the specific items to restrict.
- Save the role settings.
Use content restrictions for private member pages, guides, downloads, lessons, or announcements.
Restrict Products
- Edit a membership role.
- Find the product access area.
- Choose products, product categories, or product tags.
- Select the items that should require this membership.
- Save changes.
When a product is restricted, customers without access cannot purchase it. The plugin can hide price and add-to-cart actions and show a notice that points customers to the membership products page.

Use Product Categories for Easier Management
If many products share the same membership rule, restrict a product category instead of selecting products one by one. This makes future maintenance easier because new products in that category inherit the rule.
Recommended Access Strategy
- Use product-specific rules for a small number of premium products.
- Use category rules for larger member-only catalogs.
- Use page or post rules for member-only content areas.
- Keep a public page explaining how customers can become members.
Test as Guest and Member
Always test restricted access from two browser sessions: one logged out, and one logged in as a member. This confirms both the blocked and allowed experiences.
Content restrictions depend on membership roles. If you have not created roles yet, start with Set Up Membership Roles.
