Restrict Payment Methods for Preorder and Backorder Carts
Restrict WooCommerce payment methods for preorder and backorder carts when delayed fulfillment requires safer payment options.
Some payment methods may not be suitable for delayed orders. For example, you may not want to allow cash on delivery for preorder products.
Disable Payment Methods
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Products → Stock status.
- Find Advanced.
- Use Disable payment for pre-order to choose gateways not allowed for preorder carts.
- Use Disable payment for backorder to choose gateways not allowed for backorder carts.
- Save changes.
What Customers See
At checkout, disabled gateways should not be available when the cart contains the matching delayed item type.
Recommended Use
- Disable cash on delivery for delayed products.
- Disable payment methods that expire authorization too quickly.
- Keep reliable online payment methods enabled.
Test Before Launch
Test three carts: regular product only, preorder product only, and backorder product only. Confirm payment options differ only where intended.
