Sell Membership Products and Set Duration

Membership access is granted when a customer buys a product or subscription that you assign to a membership role.

Prepare Membership Products

1. Go to Products → Add New.
2. Create a product for the membership offer, such as Gold Membership.
3. Set the price.
4. Publish the product.

If WooCommerce Subscriptions is active, the membership role settings can also work with subscription products.

Assign Products to a Membership Role

1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Membership → Membership.
2. Find the role in Membership rules.
3. Click Edit.
4. Choose Product or Subscription if the option is available.
5. Search for and select the products that should grant this membership.
6. Save the role settings.

Choose Membership Duration

For normal products, the role can use one of these duration types:

• Unlimited: membership does not expire automatically.
• Period: membership lasts for a number of days, weeks, months, or years.
• Specific date: membership expires on a fixed date.

For subscription products, the subscription controls ongoing access. The plugin clears manual duration fields for subscription-based membership.

Test the Purchase Flow

1. Create a test customer.
2. Buy the membership product.
3. Complete payment or manually mark the order paid in WooCommerce.
4. Open the customer profile in Users.
5. Confirm the membership role was added.
6. Confirm restricted content or product access now works for that customer.

Recommended Product Setup

Use clear product names like Gold Membership – 1 Year. This helps customers understand what they are buying and helps admins identify which product grants which membership.

Membership products should use roles from Set Up Membership Roles. If members receive pricing benefits, also configure Set Up Membership Discounts.
