Set Purchase Limits for Preorder and Backorder Items

Limit how many preorder or backorder units a customer can add to cart.

Applies to 2.0.1+ Stable Verified July 29, 2026

Purchase limits help prevent customers from ordering more preorder or backorder units than you can realistically fulfill.

Set a Cart Limit

  1. Edit the product or variation.
  2. Find Pre/Backorder cart limit.
  3. Enter the maximum quantity each customer can add to cart.
  4. Use 0 for no limit.
  5. Save changes.

How the Limit Works

The plugin checks how many units of the same product or variation are already in the cart. If adding more would exceed the limit, the customer sees an error message.

Available Stock Cap

The plugin also considers current stock plus expected restock. If that available amount is greater than 0, customers cannot add more than the available amount.

Example

If current stock is -2 and expected restock is 10, the available cap is 8. A customer cannot add more than 8 units if the cap applies.
