Set Up Membership Discounts
Set up WooCommerce membership discounts and decide which products, roles, or members should receive special pricing.
Membership discounts let you automatically reduce prices for customers with specific membership roles.
Add a Discount Rule
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Membership → Membership.
- Click Edit for the membership role.
- Find the discounts area.
- Choose whether the rule applies to products, product categories, or product tags.
- Select the items.
- Choose Percentage or Fixed discount.
- Enter the discount amount.
- Make sure the rule is active.
- Save the role settings.

Percentage vs Fixed Discount
- Percentage: use for broad discounts like 10% off a category.
- Fixed: use for simple amounts like $5 off selected products.
Test Discount Display
- Log in as a customer with the membership role.
- Open a product covered by the discount rule.
- Add it to the cart.
- Confirm the discount appears as expected.
- Log out or use a non-member customer and confirm the discount is not applied.
Avoid Confusing Discount Rules
Do not create too many overlapping discount rules for the same products. If a customer belongs to multiple membership roles, overlapping discounts can become hard to explain to customers and support staff.
If you allow multiple memberships, document which discount should be expected when a customer has more than one membership role.
Recommended Naming
Name your membership products and roles clearly. For example, use Gold Member for the role and Gold Membership – 12 Months for the product. This makes discount troubleshooting easier.
Discount rules depend on membership roles from Set Up Membership Roles and may be sold through Sell Membership Products and Set Duration.
