Set Up Return Attachments, Items, and Resolutions

Set up return attachments, return items, and resolution options so customers can submit clearer WooCommerce return requests.

Applies to 1.4.1+ Stable Verified July 29, 2026

Return requests can include more than a simple reason. Customers can choose a resolution, attach files, and in eligible orders, select specific items and quantities.

Enable Attachments

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Orders → Returns.
  2. Find Request attachments.
  3. Enable Return attachment.
  4. Set how many files customers can attach.
  5. Set allowed file types, such as jpg, jpeg, png.
  6. Enable Require attachment only if photos or proof are always required.
  7. Save changes.

How Specific Item Returns Work

If an order has more than one line item, or one line item with quantity greater than one, the customer can select specific items and quantities to return.

If the order is not eligible for item selection, the plugin treats the request as an all-item return.

How Resolution Choices Work

When resolution is enabled, customers must choose from your configured options. If you leave the choices empty, the plugin falls back to common choices such as Refund, Exchange, and Store credit.

What Staff Will See

The admin order screen and customer request records can show the return reason, resolution, scope, selected items, selected quantities, and attachments.

After setting request details, review how staff should process them in Review, Approve, or Reject Return Requests.
