Troubleshooting Advanced Accounts Premium Membership Access or Discounts Do Not Work

Troubleshoot WooCommerce membership access or discounts when customers cannot see protected content or receive member pricing.

Applies to 2.1.2+ Stable Verified July 29, 2026

Membership problems usually happen when the customer does not have the expected role, the membership product is not assigned to the role, the membership expired, or the access rule was added to the wrong item.

Check the Customer Role

  1. Go to Users.
  2. Open the customer profile.
  3. Confirm the customer has the expected membership role.
  4. If the role is missing, check the order and membership product settings.

Check the Membership Product

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Membership → Membership.
  2. Click Edit for the membership role.
  3. Confirm the correct product or subscription is selected.
  4. Confirm the customer bought that exact product.

Check Membership Duration

If access worked before but stopped later, check whether the membership had a period or specific end date. Expired memberships may be removed or become inactive automatically.

Check Product and Content Rules

Make sure the rule applies to the item you are testing. For products, check whether the restriction was set on the product, product category, or product tag. For content, check whether the page, post, or taxonomy item was selected.

Check Discount Rules

  • Confirm the discount rule is active.
  • Confirm the discount applies to the product, category, or tag in the cart.
  • Confirm the customer has the membership role.
  • Test with one simple product before testing complex carts.

Check Shortcode Role Slugs

If a shortcode does not show member-only content, confirm the level value matches the role slug exactly. Role names and role slugs are not always the same.

Test With a Clean Customer

Create a new test customer, buy the membership product, then test access. This avoids confusion from old roles, manual changes, or previous test purchases.
