Use Stock Status, Pre-Order, and Backorder Workflows
Use WooCommerce Advanced Order Actions with stock status, preorder, and backorder workflows to keep fulfillment cleaner.
Advanced Order Actions can split orders by stock status. This is useful when one order contains products that are ready now and products that require later fulfillment.
What Stock Status Splitting Does
The plugin separates items by stock status. In-stock items normally stay in the original order. Backorder, pre-order, or out-of-stock items can move to split orders.
Enable Stock Status Automation
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Orders → Automation.
- Set Enable automation to Simple.
- Set Automation mode to Stock status.
- Set a delay timer.
- Save changes.
When Used With YoOhw Stock or Pre-Order Plugins
WooCommerce Stock Manager and Pre-Orders for WooCommerce can trigger Advanced Order Actions after a customer action. The split workflow still follows the settings configured in Advanced Order Actions.
Recommended Setup
Keep in-stock items in the original order and move delayed items to separate orders. This lets your team fulfill available items without waiting for pre-order or backorder items.
What to Test
- An order with only in-stock products should not create unnecessary split orders.
- An order with in-stock and backorder/pre-order products should split clearly.
- Customer emails should explain why the order was separated.
