Configure Customer Notices
Customize Blacklist Manager customer notices for blocked checkout, registration, comments, reviews, login, forms, and validation checks.
Customer notices are the short messages visitors see when Blacklist Manager blocks an action. They appear inside checkout, registration, comment, review, login, or form flows.

Simple version: Notices should tell customers what happened and what to do next, without exposing your blacklist rules.
Where To Configure Customer Notices
- Go to Blacklist Manager > Notifications.
- Open the Notices tab.
- Edit the messages for the actions you protect.
- Click Save Changes.
Do not confuse the Notices tab with the Emails tab. Notices are shown to visitors. Emails are sent to admins.
Checkout Notices
Checkout notices appear during WooCommerce checkout when Blacklist Manager blocks or restricts the order flow.
- Checkout: shown when an order is blocked at checkout.
- Proxy, VPN or TOR checkout: shown when Premium blocks checkout from a proxy, VPN, or TOR connection.
- Payment method: shown when a payment method is unavailable for a suspected customer.
A good checkout notice should be direct but neutral. It should not say the customer is blacklisted.
Example:
We could not complete this order with the information provided. Please check your details or contact support if you believe this is a mistake.
Registration Notices
Registration notices appear when a blocked visitor cannot create an account.
- Registration: shown when a blocked visitor tries to register.
- Proxy, VPN or TOR registration: shown when Premium blocks account registration from a proxy, VPN, or TOR connection.
If account creation is required for purchasing, make sure the notice includes a support path.
Comment and Review Notices
The Comment / Review notice appears when a blocked user tries to submit a WordPress comment or WooCommerce product review.
Use a short message. For example, tell the visitor that the submission could not be accepted and to contact support if they believe it is a mistake.
Blocked User Notice
The Blocked user notice appears when a blocked user tries to log in or is forced out.
This message should be especially careful. Avoid wording that sounds like a public accusation. If your support team handles account reviews, include a support contact path.
Form Notices
Form notices appear when Blacklist Manager blocks submissions from supported form plugins.
- Form: shown when a form submission is blocked.
- Proxy, VPN or TOR form: shown when Premium blocks a form submission from a proxy, VPN, or TOR connection.
Supported form integrations include Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, and WPForms. Test the notice on each form type because each form plugin displays validation messages differently.
Disposable Email and Phone Notices
Premium includes separate notices for disposable or invalid contact details.
- Disposable email: shown when the email address appears temporary, disposable, or invalid.
- Disposable phone: shown when the phone number appears temporary, disposable, or invalid.
These notices can be more specific than blacklist notices. It is safe to ask the customer to enter a permanent email address or a valid phone number.
How To Write Safe Notices
Use customer-safe wording for every notice.
- Use neutral language such as “We could not complete this request”.
- Tell the customer what they can do next.
- Do not reveal risk scores, device signals, rule names, blacklist values, or proxy detection details.
- Do not accuse the customer of fraud.
- Keep the message consistent with your store’s normal support tone.
Recommended Setup
- Customize checkout and registration notices first because they affect revenue and account creation.
- Keep block messages generic and support-friendly.
- Use more specific validation messages only for disposable email and disposable phone checks.
- Test notices on desktop and mobile checkout.
Test Customer Notices
- Create a controlled test block rule.
- Trigger the protected action, such as checkout or registration.
- Confirm the correct notice appears.
- Confirm the message is understandable to a normal customer.
- Remove the test block rule when finished.
Troubleshooting
The Customer Sees the Wrong Message
Confirm you edited the correct notice field. Checkout, registration, comments, blocked users, forms, disposable email, and disposable phone each have separate messages.
The Notice Does Not Appear on a Form
Confirm the form integration is active and that the form is not disabled from blacklist checks. Then test again with a known blocked value.
The Notice Is Too Technical
Rewrite it for a normal customer. Avoid terms such as blacklist, risk score, proxy intelligence, fingerprint, or fraud rule.
For the message shown to a blocked account when it tries to log in, see Block and Unblock WordPress Users.
